How Technology Changed Education

Back in the 20th Century, students in schools would do classwork/homework handwritten.  It took nearly an hour to get it finished if it were an essay. Then, there was a typewriter to write an essay much faster. As well as researching goes, students would have gone to the library to search for books, encyclopedia, and other resources to find information on a specific topic. It is the year 2014; the way students learn in school changes education a lot over the over the years since the 21st Century. Digital learning has made an impact on learning by getting task done easier than before. Most of classwork/homework is done digital, especially through the internet. Sometimes, it’s still done in hard copy, in case if the internet suddenly malfunctions. Technology changes the way students go to classes by online courses. This is where classes are held through the internet without actually going into a classroom sitting on the desk; primarily, it’s only available in some colleges.
Back when I was in 5th grade, we were doing book report on Dear Mr. Henshaw. I wrote my report in the computer, rather than handwriting it. I realize it became easier for me to write a book report with the use of the computer, as oppose to writing on a pencil/pen and a paper. This got me started to do most of my homework on the computer. The only time when I hand write my homework is if it doesn't require much of writing. I soon witness how technology changes the way we learn in my elementary school. We start to use laptop computers to write essay and doing research. Throughout my years in elementary school, I notice how the teachers would enter grade digitally over the internet, instead of physically grade book. Technology does make a difference on a method of learning in education.
As I enter high school, technology kept on changing education. Now, the teachers would only enter down grade digitally into the grade book. In my English classes, we wrote and submit our essay into the website called, Criterion. I find using Criterion is very effective because it not for entering essay into the system, but it also acts as an editor after submitted that essay. At that point, it would show the all of the grammatical, spelling, and sentences errors. Then, fix the errors that Criterion had detected; this was a time saver from editing the entire essay. Whenever we had a group assignment, we would use Google Drive to do our work there. Times when class is over, I would've shared to my group and our teacher, too. Brilliant idea just in case one of the group members would have been absence at the day of the presentation in class.

Overall, digital learning through the internet and new technologies changes the method of learning. We rely on a technology to finish our tasks, work, and to get things done. Technology made our lives a lot easier and convenient in school as well. Hard physically copy of textbooks has been around for quite a long time. Right now, it’s going digital turning them into e-books eliminating the need of printing papers for the textbooks. Soon or later, the students will start to do all of their learning through the usage of technology. I could visualize that digital learning would open more doors in the job market. Hopefully, this will help the U.S. economy resolving the national’s debt. I hope that everyone in this country will be educated regardless of social class. Someday, I wished (public) college will be free, no longer having to pay for tuition.
